BRUNSWICK — Vital Connections, a forum “dedicated to inter-group communication and cooperation,” will host its quarterly discussion at 6 p.m. Friday in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant St.

Presenters Friday will be Betty King of Woolwich, who will speak on “A durable solution to homelessness through shelter, work, and community;” Bruce Gagnon of Bath speaking on “Connecting the dots for survival:” and Dick Snyder of Camden on “Overcoming the Culture of Punishment.”

Karen Wainberg of Bath will serve as moderator.

King is a long-time advocate for women’s rights, for renewable energy (opposing nuclear power), for a peaceful world, and for a community-centered approach to assisting people in need of help for shelter, food, and neighborhood.

Gagnon is the coordinator of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. He has worked in the peace movement for more than 30 years and is a Vietnam-era veteran. He is a member of Maine Veterans for Peace.

Snyder serves on the Midcoast board of the Restorative Justice Project and is a founder and chair of the newly formed Restorative Justice Institute of Maine. The latter’s mission is to foster restorative justice philosophy and practices throughout Maine by working with local communities and statewide organizations. He is author of “The Protestant Ethic” and “The Spirit of Punishment.”
