AUGUSTA (AP) — A St. Albans man who faces murder charges stemming from his uncle’s death has been ordered to undergo a mental competency evaluation.
Twenty-five-year-old Jeremy Erving has been held without bail since his April arrest for the death of Randy Erving. Defense attorney Phil Mohlar says the court has ordered the evaluation and Erving might be taken to Riverview Psychiatric Center for observation.
The Morning Sentinel reports Erving pleaded not guilty in May.
Police pulled Erving over for operating under the influence in Dexter on April 7, and his girlfriend and her father later came to bail him out of jail. Police records say Erving told them that he had shot his uncle in the head after the pair had spent the afternoon drinking.
