PORTLAND — Drake Britton tossed five no-hit innings in his Double-A debut as the Portland Sea Dogs (24-33) defeated the Bowie Baysox (23-33), 6-1 Tuesday night at Hadlock Field in Eastern League baseball action.
Britton (1-0) pitched around six walks in his five innings, picking up two strikeouts in his Double-A debut. He retired eight of the last nine batters he faced.
Will Latimer relieved Britton in the sixth, yielding a lead-off single to Robbie Widlansky to break-up the no-hitter.
The Sea Dogs’ offense went to work in the bottom of the third. Nick Natoli walked, Jeremy Hazelbaker reached on a bunt single and Oscar Tejeda picked up an RBI with a single.
Juan Carlos Linares singled to extend his hitting streak to eight games to load the bases. A walk to Reynaldo Rodriguez forced in a run.
Linares and Rodriguez hit back-to-back doubles in the fifth making it 3-0 Portland, and a Dan Butler double, Derrick Gibson RBI triple and a wild pitch gave the ’Dogs a 5- 0 lead.
Bowie scored in the eighth, with Rhyde Hughes driving in Manny Machado with a single, but Butler launched a home run in the bottom of the frame to complete the scoring.
The teams are slated to play tonight at 7 p.m.
