PHIPPSBURG
A Phippsburg man was arrested last week after a neighborhood feud reportedly erupted into a confrontation involving a rifle.
The incident was reported Wednesday at 4:44 p.m.
Dain Gilliam, 23, of 2 Carrying Place was charged with criminal threatening and criminal mischief.
Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office Chief Deputy Brett Strout said there had been an ongoing feud between Gilliam and his neighbors over the neighbors’ dogs. This particular day the problems erupted into a confrontation.
One dog allegedly attacked another neighbor’s dog. Gilliam interjected himself into the situation, “whereupon he threw a rock,” breaking the windshield of the neighbors’ car, said Strout.
“And then (he) retrieved a rifle and pointed it towards the neighbors, threatening them,” Strout said. “He fled when the sheriff ’s department was called.”
Deputies Mark Anderson, Brian Carlton and Sgt. Greg Siegel responded and investigated the incident and seized the rifle as evidence. Strout declined to say whether or not it was loaded due to the ongoing investigation.
Strout said Gilliam returned home later that evening and was brought to the sheriff ’s office by his parents where he was arrested and released on $500 unsecured bail.
No one was injured during the incident, Strout said.
