TOPSHAM — Louise E. Westrum, 73, of Marc Avenue died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Mid Coast Senior Health in Brunswick.

She was born in Bath on July 28, 1942, a daughter of Louis and Barbara (Barter) Cooper.

She attended Bath Schools and graduated from Morse High School. She was a Police Matron for the City of Bath from 1974 to 1979 and from 1979 to 2009 she was a Corrections Officer for Sagadahoc County.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Bath, Post #21 and the Brunswick Lodge of Elks.

She enjoyed reading and for the last several years having her hair done by her friends Noreen and Lisa every Thursday and having an occasional lunch or visit with her childhood friends Helen and Martha. She really enjoyed playing Texas Holdem and cribbage with her many friends at the Brunswick Elks and was a master at bluffing and winning. She especially enjoyed Christmas, holidays and spending time with her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Dudley

H. Leavitt, Jr. of Topsham, three sons, Mark Westrum of Bath, Jeffrey Westrum and his wife Leticia of Phippsburg and Benjamin Westrum of Bath, one daughter, Tracy Westrum- Eck and her husband Richard “Jo Jo” Eck of Lisbon Falls, one brother, Earl “Pete” Cooper of Fairfield, four grandchildren, Katie Westrum, Matthew Westrum, Jessica McIntire and Jamie Bennett, one great granddaughter, Katelyn Bennett and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Daniel Cooper and two grandchildren, Brett Westrum and Stephanie Westrum.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at the Brunswick Lodge of Elks, Park Row in Brunswick with an Elks Service at 1:30. A burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 122 State Street, Augusta, 04330.
