The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department is searching for the culprit or culprits who “keyed” several vehicles parked on the sales lot at a State Road business this weekend.

Reported at 10:43 a.m. Saturday, Chief Deputy Brett Strout said someone scratched 19 vehicles in the sales lot at New Meadows Auto Sales, 390 State Road. The cars were scratched with a key or sharp item, causing several thousands of dollars in paint damage. The vandalism is believed to have taken place sometime between 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday.

As of Monday morning Strout said investigators had no suspects or leads yet but continue to look into who did the damage. The sheriff ’s department is looking for help identifying anyone who may have been in the area of the sales lot or walking along State Road during the timeframe when authorities think the cars were scratched.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Deputy Steve Thibeault at 443-9711 or the detective division at 386-5827.
