BATH
Bath Rotary Club President Will Neilson presented a donation June 3 to Chris Szalay, program coordinator of the Catholic Charities SEARCH — Greater Bath Program.
The SEARCH Program (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope) was created almost 10 years ago as the Greater Bath Elder Outreach Network. The program matches volunteers with elderly members of the community, with the mission of helping vulnerable seniors remain independent. Volunteers provide companionship, and help with errands and shopping, as well as transportation to medical appointments.
Donations such as this one by the Bath Rotary Club, along with support from United Way of Mid Coast Maine, Bath Housing, The Davenport Trust Fund, The Ladd Charitable Foundation, and JTG Foundation help many elderly residents in the Bath and Brunswick areas each year.
Grants and donations from Bessie D. Brooks, Doree Taylor, local civic and religious organizations, and individuals all add to the community support that the SEARCH Program provides.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
