AUGUSTA (AP) — Attorneys for a homeless Seattle man charged in connection with a 1976 slaying in Maine have told a judge that an alternative suspect theory should be presented to a jury.
Gary Raub was arrested in 2012 in connection with the stabbing death of 70- year-old Blanche Kimball in her Augusta home. Raub at one time rented a room from Kimball, but denied involvement in her death at the time and has pleaded not guilty.
His attorneys on Tuesday made their case for an alternative suspect, calling to the stand a man who once mowed Kimball’s lawn and said he disposed of a knife he had he found.
