The State Class A Track and Field Championships were held Saturday at Windham High School, with the Cheverus boys and Thornton Academy girls prevailing.

The TA girls won 65-58 over Bonny Eagle, with Brewer third (52), South Portland fourth (51) and Edward Little fifth (48), Brunswick was seventh with 31 points and Mt. Ararat 23rd (four) out of 26 teams.

The Cheverus boys won 99-79 over Lewiston, followed by Scarborough (61), Thornton Academy (45.50) and Edward Little (39.50). Brunswick (19) was 12th and Mt. Ararat 22nd with six points.

For the Brunswick boys, Shane Lyons was the lone individual champ as he won the long jump in 21-00.50. Lyons was seeded 15th.

“That was his best jump by a foot and a half,” said Brunswick coach David DeLois. “He just had a great day.”

Other Brunswick points came from Chris Tanner in the800(fifth,2:03.29)andthe4x800relayofJasonHigginbotham, Jack Murphy, Zach Miller, Christopher Tanner (third, 8:24.86)

For Mt. Ararat, Justin Pierce was tied for fifth (6-00) in the high jump and Andrew McCracken took fourth (12-06) in the pole vault.

In the Brunswick effort, Tiffany Tanner took third in the 800-meter run (2:26.43), Teresa Murphy seventh in the 1600 (5;25.17), Tessa Cassidy third in the 3200 (11:47.91) and Michele Richards fourth in the discus (99-11).

 
 
The4x400relayof LenaMartin,AnnaTurner,Tanner andAnnaCowanwassecondin4:15.35,andthe4x800 relay of Cowan, Cassidy, Murphy and Tanner third in a school-record 9:49.29.

In the Mt. Ararat cause, Kelly Lynch was fifth in the 1600(5:23.16)andthe4x400relayof NicoleRoss,Summer Gray, Sara Napoleon and Lynch placed seventh in 4:21.86.

Next is the 69th annual New England Interscholastic Track and Field Championships, scheduled for this Saturday at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Mass.
