An objective measure of a person’s leadership qualities is to look at how that person is viewed by his or her peers and colleagues. In January 1994, Ralph Tucker took the seat which I was vacating on the Brunswick School Board. A year later his colleagues elected him the Chair of the Board and repeated that show of confidence by re-electing him Chair the following year.
Earlier in Ralph’s career he was appointed by Maine’s Governor as a member of the Worker’s Compensation Commission. After four years on that job he was appointed to Chair that Commission. A few years later a Governor of a different party reappointed Ralph as the Chair.
When Ralph was appointed as a Maine District Court Judge he was assigned to the resident judgeship position in Wiscasset. I appeared in his court on numerous occasions. He confronted many of the most difficult issues which our neighbors encounter. He managed his courtroom with discipline, courtesy, respect, sensitivity and fairness.
I believe that Ralph Tucker will be an excellent and effective legislative representative for our community.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
