VINALHAVEN — The Richmond High School baseball and softball squads visited Vinalhaven Saturday in season-opening East-West Conference action.
Softball
Leandra Martin twirled a five-inning, three-hitter and the Bobcats offense produced 21 hits in a 19-1 win. Richmond scored five runs each in the second and third innings and seven more in the fifth.
Danica Hurley, Ciarra Lancaster and Kelsi Obi each had three singles to lead the Bobcats, while Bri Snedeker and Alyssa Pearson each singled and doubled, and Jamie Plummer and Kayla Hurley split four singles evenly.
Martin struck out 10 and walked one and Vinalhaven was hurt by four errors.

In Saturday’s baseball contest, the Bobcats had just five hits and four errors and Vinalhaven scored two runs each in the first, third, fourth and sixth innings.
Tyler Harrington and Kade Strout took turns on the mound for Richmond and allowed 13 hits with six strikeouts and seven walks. Winning pitcher Brian Stanley had 11 strikeouts and four walks.
In the Richmond offense, Randy Moody and Harrington each doubled and Cameron Emmons, Bailey Johnson and Brian Snedeker each singled.
Steven Osgood singled four times in the winning effort and Cody Lyons had two singles and a double.
Both Richmond squads are off until April 24 when they are scheduled to host Rangeley.
