To the Editor:
This Legislative session’s debacle was not only a waste of our lawmakers’ time, but perpetuated misery for Mainers without health insurance and others who could have been helped by the work the Legislature did.
Too many good bills went down to defeat by veto pen and ultimately, the cowardice of the Republican minority who had voted once for these bills. Was supporting Gov. LePage really that important? Isn’t their job to do the right thing for their constituents, not one control freak in the Blaine House?
I thought I had seen it all under Longley. Any person who can make James Longley look like the voice of sweet reason has got to go in November.
Maybe then the Republicans will find their courage and vote for their constituents — if they aren’t voted out by them, too.
Let’s see if we can’t find bipartisanship again and a sense of responsibility to the voters, not to one man.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
