RUMFORD (AP) — A paper machine in Maine that has been shut down since last year is going to be restarted.
Catalyst Paper says the company restarted the Rumford mill machine on Tuesday.
The company writes in a report to customers that an uncoated free sheet offset paper will be made on the machine in addition to coated products.
The machine had manufactured coated paper for magazines and catalogs until it was shut down in May and more than 50 employees were laid off. It was indefinitely turned off in September.
The Maine Pulp and Paper Association says the machine’s restart supports their view that pulp and papermaking in Maine is “alive and well.”
