BRUNSWICK

A complaint of a theft has led to a man being arrested and accused of pointing a shotgun at his tenant Tuesday in Brunswick.

Peter Davis, 57, is being charged with one count of criminal threatening and terrorizing; both are class C felonies, according to Brunswick Deputy Police Chief Marc Hagan.

Hagan said that Davis reported a theft at his residence on Monday at 59 Cumberland St., and that he believed one of his tenants at that address was the perpetrator. On Tuesday morning, Davis called the police again, this time to state that he was dissatisfied with the speed of the investigation, and that he would handle matters himself, according to Hagan.

Shortly thereafter, at 10:59 a.m. Tuesday, police received a call that a woman was being threatened.

Police spoke with the alleged victim, a 21-year-old woman resident of Davis Homes at 59 Cumberland St. The victim told police that “she just had a loaded shotgun pointed at her face” by Davis, who was threatening the victim, said Hagan. The victim’s children, ages 1- year-old and 4-months, were allegedly present when the victim was threatened, according to Hagan.

Police said they met Davis at 59 Cumberland St. After finding probable cause for his arrest, police attempted to take him into custody, said Hagan. During the arrest, Hagan said Davis “suffered a potential injury” and was taken to Mid Coast Hospital, said Hagan.

A search of Davis’s residence found one rifle and a shotgun matching a description provided by the alleged victim, said Hagan. Both weapons were loaded, Hagan said.

Davis was released from the hospital on $1,500 unsecured bail. As part of the conditions of his release, Davis is not allowed to possess drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons, and he must submit to random searches.

He is scheduled to appear July 22 at Cumberland County Superior Court.

Both the incident with the shotgun and the burglary remain under investigation.
