BRUNSWICK — Scott Karczewski, director of the Togus VA Regional Office, and Jack Hudson, former veterans service center manager at Togus, will be at People Plus, 35 Union St., at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to discuss veterans benefits.
They plan to give a presentation on the rules for establishing eligibility to serviceconnected compensation benefits, and non-service connected pension benefits. It will detail the steps in the claims process for each benefit, to include the required evidence.
Karczewski and Hudson also will explain the conditions that can be granted on a “presumptive basis,” which refers to disabilities that can be granted as service-connected solely because a veteran served in a certain location at a particular period of time.
Information about benefits for surviving spouses and burial benefits will be presented. Claims forms will be available, and assistance will be provided on initiating claims as time permits.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
