BATH — “Young Green Thumbs,” a free children’s activity series, will take place each Wednesday afternoon in April at Patten Free Library.
The program is sponsored by Local Farms-Local Food, a collaboration between the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust (KELT) and the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust to celebrate local food and agriculture in the Bath-Brunswick region.
Becky Kolak, KELT’s education coordinator, will offer agricultural themed activities, discussion, and crafts.
“Exposing children to the wonders of growing food, whether plants or animals, is an important step to healthy eating habits,” a release states. “The connection of food from the farm to the plate is a fun and active journey.
Children will start a summer vegetable garden, marvel at the intricacies of soil, become chefs of homemade pesto and learn the amazing story of farm sheep.”
The four-part series, designed for children 6 to 11 years old, will be held in the children’s room at the library from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. each Thursday.
Advance registration is not necessary. For more information, email Kolak at [email protected], visit www.kennebecestuary.org or call 442-8400.
