To the Editor:
As a woman I care about economic issues that affect families. I care about access to contraception. I care about equal pay for equal work and a livable wage. I care about affordable health care. That’s why I’m supporting Shenna Bellows for U.S. Senate.
Her whole career has been devoted to fighting for my basic rights and supporting women’s issues. As a consequence of her many successes, she has earned the endorsements of leading women’s rights organizations, as well as many unions.
Her opponent, Sen. Susan Collins, while claiming to be a moderate, has voted against the Paycheck Fairness Act, reproductive rights, and an increase in the minimum wage. Women make up more than 51 percent of her constituency here in Maine, but you wouldn’t know that by her voting record.
Better paying jobs, health care and economic security is good policy for all of us, regardless of gender, race or economic status. My vote will go to Shenna Bellows.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
