A long-time supporter of the Bowdoin International Music Festival has announced a matching grant of $10,000. The anonymous grant will match dollar for dollar any new or increased donations to the festival, up to $10,000.
In making the grant, the donor said, “There is a new energy at the Festival, an increased vitality. I am happy to support Phillip Ying and David Ying, the festival’s artistic directors, in their vision for the festival.”
The funds will go to support scholarships for festival participants.
“This donor recognizes the strength and spirit of the Festival,” said Director of Development Kippy Rudy. “After decades of attending our concerts she has decided this is the opportunity to do more, and to hopefully inspire her fellow audience members to do the same. We look forward to reporting to her the success of her initiative.”
Donations may be made on line through the festival’s website or by contacting Kippy Rudy at [email protected] or (207) 373-1440.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
