TOPSHAM

Woodside Elementary School was evacuated at around 8 a.m. Monday for a reported smell of gas.

Topsham Fire Chief Brian Stockdale said firefighters were on scene for nearly 40 minutes checking all the likely and possible causes but found no source of the smell. The initial call was for a smell of gas in the area of the main office.

Stockdale said firefighters used equipment to monitor the air and searched for anything that could create carbon monoxide, but found nothing.

He said the fire department will continue to monitor the issue and said School Administrative District 75’s facilities management is aware of the reported gas odor as well.

A school bus was brought to the school so students could get on board and stay warm. Stockdale said students were able to go back into the school fairly quickly.
