BRUNSWICK — Jean B. Clifford, 90 of Thornton Oaks, died Friday, March 4, 2016 at Mid Coast Senior Health Care.

She was born in Lumberton, NC., April 6, 1925, the daughter of Murray and Claire Kanouse Brisson. After graduation from Mars Hill Junior College and Duke University School of Nursing with a BSN, she worked as a nurse in Florida, North Carolina and in Washington DC, where she met her husband to-be.

In 1961, she moved to Maine with her husband, CDR George M. Clifford, Jr., USN, Ret., where they raised their five sons. Jean also found time to be active in the Topsham Garden Club and to volunteer at the hospital and thrift shop. After their sons were grown, Jean and George enjoyed traveling around the world, as well as extensive trips in their RV around North America.

CDR Clifford died in Sept 1988. Jean was also predeceased by a son, William B. Clifford, in 1999.

Mrs. Clifford is survived by four sons: George M. Clifford III and his wife Susan of Honolulu, HI, Charles B. Clifford and his wife Jennifer of Somerville, MA, John D. Clifford and his wife Mary Beth of Salem, NH, and Thomas E. Clifford of Saipan; a daughter-in-law Cynthia Clifford of Melrose, MA; a sister and her husband, Joyce Thomas and Richard Heckathorn of Palm Coast, FL; as well as five grandchildren, J.D., Laura, Will, Brittany, and Sarah.
