As part of a project titled “One school, one book,” all students at Fisher-Mitchell School in Bath read “Ocean Soup,” by Steve Swinburne. The book includes humorous poems based on ocean themes.

Students and staff then took part in a number of projects and study units related to ocean themes. Volunteers from the community participated by donating live sea creatures — shrimp, lobsters, fish, etc. — for a touch tank and other items related to the Maine coast.

The entire school community devoted Wednesday to activities related to ocean studies.

After attending an assembly, kids sang sea songs, wrote poems, created art and read aloud.
