AUGUSTA ( AP) — Gov. Paul LePage is due back in Maine just as the Legislature takes up a budget package that closes a $120 million hole with program cuts and savings initiatives.
LePage left for Florida on Saturday and is due to return today. In Augusta, the House and Senate are scheduled to be in session today.
House Democratic leader Emily Cain says the budget could come up for an initial reading, which would set the stage for further debate on floor amendments the following day.
Much of the supplemental budget covers MaineCare cuts. As approved by the Appropriations Committee, the budget reduces payments to childless adults and reduces the income threshold for parents of children on MaineCare to 133 percent of the poverty level.
LePage says the cuts aren’t deep enough.
