BANGOR (AP) — The wife of one of three men awaiting sentencing for a marijuana operation has reached a forfeiture agreement with the federal government.
A judge on Wednesday fined Haynes Timber $100,000 and accepted the forfeiture agreement in which owner Barbara French paid $1.55 million. Under the settlement, she retains 22,000 acres comprising Township 37 while agreeing not to contest the forfeiture of two other properties.
The judge dealt with Haynes Timber after delaying sentencing of French’s husband and two other men on charges stemming from a sophisticated marijuana operation.
They were arrested and convicted after officials raided a marijuana-growing operation hidden in the woods and swamps owned by Haynes Timber in Township 37 in Washington County. Drug agents seized nearly 3,000 plants valued at $9 million in 2009.
