Monday’s letter to the editor by Tad ForestHeart caught my attention as I also would like to see the old Skolfield House used for the many homeless people who are living outside or are couch surfing tonight. I have met many of them at The Gathering Place.

I spoke out at a meeting with Midcoast Hospital, Sweetser, Maine Behavioral Health, Oasis Clinic, Tedford Shelter, MCHPP, United Way and Brunswick Police suggesting that we all pitch in to make it happen. It is great that we are meeting together to try to find solutions to common problems. Unfortunately budgets are constantly being cut so nobody jumped up and said “I will.” But just as the Gathering Place was created by concerned citizens who donate their time and money, and not by any government funding, can’t we the people and the above agencies come together, like Stone Soup, pooling our resources, to take this idea and run with it?
