AUGUSTA
The deadline for groups trying to get proposals on the November ballot has arrived.
Petitions must be delivered to the secretary of state’s office by the end of Monday. A minimum of 61,123 signatures is required, and state officials have 30 days to certify them.
A proposal for ranked-choice voting already has the green light, and petitions have been delivered on proposals to increase the minimum wage and for background checks for private gun sales.
But several campaigns were working through the weekend to get their petitions ready. Those include proposals to legalize marijuana, boost school funding and create a southern Maine casino.
The Maine GOP announced Friday that it will try for next year instead of November for its proposal to lower the income tax cut and reform welfare.
