NEWCASTLE

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir is auditioning new members for all voice parts. They begin the new year with a program celebrating the rich treasure of a cappella music through the ages, including works of Byrd, Schütz, Gesualdo, Josquin, Palestrina, Monteverdi, Mozart, Brahms, Mendelssohn and a wealth of 20th century masters.

Rehearsals take place in Newcastle on Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Church. The choir is directed by Linda Blanchard and accompanied by Sean Fleming, both of Damariscotta. To schedule an audition, call director Linda Blanchard at (207) 380-2768 or email audition@ceciliachoir.org. For more information about the choir, visit www.ceciliachoir.org.

Singers wishing to audition should have good vocal control and sopranos and altos should be able to sing without vibrato. The ability to read music is much preferred, but those who cannot read may participate by spending extra time learning the music at home with the aid of provided practice materials. Gifted student singers are encouraged to audition.

St. Cecilia Chamber Choir is a fully auditioned community chorus based in Newcastle and founded in 1995. Their mission is to present outstanding performances of the very best choral repertoire; to provide challenging musical opportunities to gifted local youth; to support our community with outreach programs; and to support Maine composers through the commission and performance of new music.
