Over the past eight weeks, Marj suffered two bouts of pneumonia and was unable to recover from the respiratory/ cardiac damage.
Marjorie Catherine Burton was a vibrant woman who survived the heartbreak of not only two husbands (Earl and George) but her only grandchild (Alexander). The sole surviving direct blood relative is her son Earl. There are cousins in New Jersey, Texas, Washington and South Carolina.
All those that knew her knew that there was NOTHING she would not do to help you. She will be sorely missed.
Mom will be cremated and, at her request, there will be no official or organized service. Mom quipped one day, “When I’m gone you all can have a meatball sandwich or a Philly steak sub in my honor.” That is the recommended remembrance for Marj.
Shriner’s Hospitals or the Salvation Army is where Marj would want any donations made in her name.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
