BATH — The Morse High School freshman girls basketball team fell behind early, but sparked a comeback in the third quarter en route to a 24-22 win over Camden Hills recently.
The Shipbuilders dropped the first two quarters, 6-3 and 14-11, but outscored Windjammers 6-3 in the third to tie the game at 17 headed into the fourth.
Rosa Atienda led Morse with eight points, while Marija Mendencia and Vanessa St. Pierre had seven and five, respectively.
For Camden, Rebecca Cox finished with eight points and Melissa Tracy-Tomes split another eight points with Allyson Glasier.
Morse (1-3) went 4-of-11 from the free-throw line and Camden made 2-of-7.
In a second game against rival Brunswick, Morse fell, 59-24.
The Dragons jumped out to an early 16-6 edge after the first quarter and were leading at the next two quarter breaks, 32-14 and 48-18.
Five players were in double digits for Brunswick, including Mai Burroughs with 13, Emily Larochelle with 12 and Johnnie Folson with 12. Tanisha McKenzie and Rosalie White each had 10.
For Morse, Mendenica had nine and St. Pierre tallied six.
Brunswick was 5-of-8 from the charity stripe and Morse converted 4-of-6.
