NORTH ANSON — The Wiscasset High School boys basketball team appeared to have everything under control in its Mountain Valley Conference matchup with Carrabec on Thursday.

Looking to end a two game slide, the Wolverines led 35-21 the half.

But, the Cobras unleashed a 32-point third quarter, rallying for a 68-63 win, dropping Wiscasset, which hosts Lisbon on Tuesday at 7 p.m., to 8-3.

Dustin Crawford scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter rally for Carrabec (3-7). Evan Holzworth added 15 points.

Ethan James paced Wiscasset with 19 points, while Brandon Sprague nailed four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points. Kevin Lynch chipped in 17.

The host Lakers pulled

away in the fourth quarter for a Western Maine Conference win over Freeport, which fell to 2-7 and visits Yarmouth on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Falcons trailed 12-5, 22-12 and 50-37 at the quarter breaks.

Nate Smith paced Lake Region (6-2) with 18 points, while Jackson Lesure had a double-double with 17 points and 15 boards. He also dished out seven assists.

Jack Davenport led Freeport with 17 points, and Nate Pelletier had 11.

NAPLES — Freeport struggled out of the gate and Lake Region took advantage en route to a 42-37 WMC victory on Thursday.

The Falcons trailed 9-1 after a quarter, 22-16 at the half and 31-22 through three quarters.

Jessica Driscoll had 11 points for Freeport, which hosts rival Yarmouth on Saturday at 7 p.m. Megan Cormier and Taylor Rinaldi chipped in six points each. The Falcons were 8-of-15 at the line.

Kristen Huntress picked up a game-high 17 points for the Lakers (7-1), with Lauren Jakobs adding 11. Lake Region was 5-of-23 at the free-throw line.

The visiting Cobras jumped out to a 10-2 firstquarter lead and never looked back in an MVC win at Wiscasset.

Carrabec (6-4) held a 17-9 halftime lead, and moved further ahead with a 9-6 scoring advantage in the third quarter.

Libby Chestnut paced the win with 23 points.

Wiscasset (3-8), which hosts Lisbon at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, received 11 points from Gabby Chapman and six from Hayhlee Craig.
