UNITY (AP) — A Maine college is expanding its campus to include a greenhouse operation that was given to the school.
Unity College says they’ve been given Half Moon Gardens of Thorndike, a greenhouse operation that supports conventional and organic products.
The college is planning a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the spring.
Officials say the new facility will provide opportunities for students to study some of the agricultural challenges facing rural New England, like energy costs and sparse population density.
Half Moon Gardens was donated by Isabel McKay and Rick Thompson of Brooks and is the second largest donation in the college’s history.
