STUDENTS IN THE CNA AND EMT PROGRAM at Maine Region 10 Technical High School have a new life-like simulated mannequin to enhance their patient assessment training. The $30,000 mannequin simulates a pulse, breath, blinks, constricting pupils and other human features. “Patient assessment is the most important part of what we do, and having this mannequin will greatly enhance the ability of the EMT and CNA students to do a good patient assessment,” said EMT Instructor John Bellino. Students are able to talk to the mannequin and ask questions while assessing it, and the instructor is able to be in a viewing room and use the voice controls to make the mannequin communicate with the student making a scenario more realistic. The school was able to obtain this piece of equipment through the Stephen King Foundation and the Perkins Grant. “The students have named the mannequin ‘Dolores Perkins,’ partly in honor of a Stephen King character and as a token of our appreciation for the Perkins Grant,” said Region 10 Assistant Director John Paige.
