PORTLAND

William Hartley, 33, of Brunswick was indicted this month for robbery and theft by a Cumberland County Grand Jury. Hartley was arrested by Brunswick police two days after an alleged bank robbery.

Brunswick police responded to the Brunswick TD Bank branch on Tibbetts Drive the morning of Aug. 16, following the report of a holdup alarm activated at the bank.

According to court documents, witnesses say a man wearing dark clothing and a beanie entered the bank and demanded money through a note. He fled the scene after getting $600 in cash from the teller, according to the documents.

Police released images to media of the suspect captured by bank surveillance cameras and asked for the public’s help in finding him.

Brunswick Police Cmdr. Mark Waltz said officers obtained a warrant and searched Hartley’s residence. The suspect was not present when the home was searched, but police say Hartley was later located at the Best Western Plus Motel on Gurnet Road in Brunswick where he’d rented a room.

He faces up to 10 years in prison for the class B Felony.
