Mt. Ararat JV boys soccer wins

TOPSHAM — Mt. Ararat received goals from Thomas Davison and Eli Ouellette to edge Edward Little, 2-1 in high school boys jayvee soccer action on Friday.

James Singleton (four saves) and Mitch Surace (two saves) manned the net for Mt. Ararat (8-2-2).

Nathan Taylor assisted on Davison’s goal, while Jace Hollenbach provided the helper on Ouellette’s.

Nathan Kofroth, Tristan Zell, Nathan Burch, Michael Kane and Jax Hollenbach all had strong performances in the victory.

Eagles FH downs Lewiston, 9-0

TOPSHAM — On Friday the Mt. Ararat Middle School “A” field hockey team hosted Lewiston and came away with a 9-0 victory.

Lily Koslosky got the hosts on the board minutes into the game with a tip-in from a Paige Witwicki feed. Jazzy Huntsman started work on her hat trick by scoring on a corner insert by Greta Marchildon.

Witwicki (assisted by Paige Gagne) and Huntsman (unassisted) finished the scoring for the half to make it 4-0.

Lewiston had a few scoring opportunities, but the Eagle defense of Taylor Morrell, Ella Davies and Audrey Marchildon shut down the Blue Demons, and goalie Lexi Brillant stood her ground.

The second half was much of the same. Belle Hemond opened the scoring floodgates with assists from Witwicki and Phoebe Fitzpatrick. Greta Marchildon slammed one in off a pass from Fitzpatrick, and then assisted the next goal by Witwicki. Huntsman set up Greta Marchildon for the next tally. Huntsman finished the scoring with a minute left off a nice pass from Audrey Marchildon.

Piper Cohen made two saves for the Eagles in the second half.

Midfielders Charlie Smith, Megan Reed, Gagne, Fitzpatrick and Mira Rineer kept the ball in the scoring end of the field throughout the contest.

The Eagles are now 5-1 and travel to Oxford Hills today and Brunswick on Thursday.

Area runners in action for USM

BRUNSWICK — Paced by sophomore Chandler Vincent’s (Pownal, Maine/ Freeport) fourth-place finish, the youthful University of Southern Maine men’s cross country finished third among the 12 teams competing Saturday at the annual State of Maine Championships held at Bowdoin College.

The Huskies’ third-place finish was their best at the state meet since 2011 when they were also third. Bates College, on the strength of five top 10 finishes (3-5-6-7- 10), captured the team title with 31 points.

Host Bowdoin, with a one-two finish from juniors Ben Torda and Sean MacDonald, was runner-up with 42. Southern Maine totaled 69 points.

Vincent covered the 8,000- meter men’s course in a time of 25:59.5 in fourth place. Torda, MacDonald, Bates senior Zach Magin, and Vincent were the only competitors to break the 26- minute barrier.

Rookie Cameron Meier (Bowdoin, Maine/Mt. Ararat) was the Huskies’ second finisher, placing 13th with a time of 26:34.8.

Sophomore Nick Harriman (Lisbon) finished 28th overall with his time of 27:33.6.

Southern Maine is off this weekend as it makes final preparations for the annual Little East Conference Championships on Oct. 28 at Keene State College.

Brunswick JV takes down Lewiston, 5-0

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick High School jayvee girls soccer team bounced back from its only blemish of the season, downing Lewiston, 5-0, in recent action.

The Dragons and Blue Devils tied, 1-1, earlier in the season.

This time around, Katherine Hartnett, assisted by Riley Turgeon, Lila Solberg, off of a stolen pass, Alex Bunker, assisted by Taylor Cunningham, Amanda Cloutier, assisted by Bunker off a corner, and Elena Palmer, from defender Grace Confer, powered Brunswick to the win.

Mt. Ararat 8th boys win, tie

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade boys soccer team was in action recently with a pair of contests.

In a 3-1 win over Auburn, Sebastien Varela, Sean Rrthi and Carson Taylor scored a goal each for the Eagles, with Spencer LeClair assisting on all three tallies.

Duncan Paetow was in net for the Eagles.

Mt. Ararat (5-0-1) battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw with Tripp. Mason Surace had the lone Eagles goal, while Paetow made several saves to keep the tied.

Nolen Timberlake, Brycen

Kowalski, Lyle Greenstone and Kennedy Eddy played well.

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade girls’ soccer team topped Lewiston, 2-0 in a recent match-up.

The Eagle goalies, Elsa Daulerio and Emily Bontibus, held Lewiston scoreless with the help of Olivia Cox, Anya Bachor, Rachel Eaton, Jillian Truden and Kaylee Bergeron on defense. Madison Kinney scored both goals for Mt. Ararat.

The squad also downed Tripp, 2-1 in earlier action. Barrett Thiboutot scored on a penalty kick and Morgan Ruff added the other goal for Mt. Ararat.

Daulerio and Bontatibus shared the duties in goal. Amanda Pickens, Shelby Myrick and Cox all added significant contributions to the win.

Mt. Ararat 7th girls win, lose

TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School seventh grade girls’ soccer team fell to Lewiston, 2-1 recently.

Angel Huntsman scored first for the Eagles, but Lewiston answered back with a pair of unanswered goals. The Eagles set themselves up for many chances to score, but failed to connect. Solid contributions were made by Ella Bergeron, Ariana Graybill, Emma Dobransky and Alex Durant. Jenessa Blanc was in net for Eagles.

Earlier in the week, the team avenged a loss from earlier in the season by beating Tripp, 3-2. The girls came out strong with Emma Dobransky scoring from a pass by Hannah Hawkes. Claire Tankersley added her own goal to give Mt. Ararat the 2-0 lead.

Tripp’s Marhysa York and Logan Arsenault each added goals to tie the game.

Dobransky registered her second goal with four minutes remaining to give Mt. Ararat the win.

Blanc and Sydney Dufresne shared goalie duties for the Eagles.

Brunswick 8th girls earn wins

BRUNSWICK — The Brunswick Junior High School eighth-grade girls soccer team improved to 8-0 with a 3-1 win against Oxford Hills on Friday.

After a scoreless first half, Riley McIntyre notched a goal on a penalty kick. A few minutes later, Mia Klimash, assisted by Ella Gagnon and Logan Brown, blasted one by the Oxford Hills goalie.

Ophelia Ladner finished the scoring late in the second half with an assist from Piper Mann.

Riley McCallister, Morgan Foster and Emily Fairbanks controlled the Brunswick backfield. Abby Sharpe made several saves in the net for the Huskies.

Earlier in the week, the team downed Tripp Middle School, 2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Brunswick opened the second half with blazing speed and strength. The Huskies dominated, making Tripp’s defense work hard. Mann sent a strong kick across the goal from the right wing and Mia DeSantis knocked it in for the goal.

Tripp rallied, getting the goal back, but Brown notched the winning goal with 10 minutes to go.

McCallister, Abby Sharpe and Foster controlled the back field. McIntyre and Emma Charbonneau played well for the Huskies.

The team also picked up a victory against Mt. Ararat, 1-0 in Topsham. The lone goal came from McIntyre in the second half.
