On Tuesday, the Brunswick High School girls soccer team is scheduled to host defending State Class A champion Camden Hills.

Brunswick took care of its share of Tuesday’s undefeated battle, rolling to a 4-0 win over the Red Eddies, improving to a perfect 11-0.
“I just try to relax them, have them play their game,” said Brunswick coach Martyn Davison. “We came here with a game plan, not to out-pass them but to play relaxed.”
A challenge for a good passing team like Brunswick is playing on a bumpy field like EL’s. The first 10 minutes of the contest produced no scoring chances for either side, as ball control was difficult.
“It is never a classic playing on this field, and it will never be pretty here,” said Davison. “Our girls showed determination today. We struggled the first 10 minutes, but once we got those first two goals we were good.”
Goal one came from Anna Kousky with 21:44 left in the first half. Marley Groat sent a pass to Kousky, who beat a defender before slipping a shot past Red Eddies goaltender Taylor Depot (nine saves).
Seven minutes later, Groat doubled Brunswick’s lead. Dragon senior Maeve Arthur won a battle in front of the EL goal, with her shot stopped by the diving Depot. Groat was in a perfect spot, sending the rebound into the vacated goal.
“We practiced really hard for this game. We are continuing to put in the work,” said Groat, who moved throughout the lineup on Thursday.
“Marley played everywhere today, at striker, in the midfield and in the back,” said Davison. “She is talented. When it was 2- 0, they put No. 22 (Piper Norcross) up front and Marley moved back there to defend her. She just does things well.”
Second half
Any chance of an EL second half comeback was quickly dashed when Arthur took a lead pass from Emily Larochelle and ripped a shot into the cage for a 3-0 Brunswick lead.
The Red Eddies did a solid job throughout in creating chances. However, most of their opportunities resulted in shots going wide or high of Beth Labbe’s (four saves) cage.
“We had about the same amount of shots as them, we just didn’t put them away, and they put them away when we made our mistakes,” said EL midfielder Lauren Berube.
Brunswick upped its lead to four goals with 12:49 remaining when Sara Scrapchansky put home a shot from in front of Depot. Rae Bamberger earned the assist.
The Brunswick defense of Larochelle, Mikaela Aschbrenner and Rian Sachs were solid throughout, along with Dragon midfielders Lea Scrapchansky, Alexis Guptill and Emma Banks. Brunswick played without standouts Bailey Hartill, Isabella Banks and Portia Woestman, but still had enough to keep the Red Eddies (4-6-1) off the board.
Now comes the showdown with Camden Hills, a contest that has been moved to the Brunswick football stadium at 6 p.m.
“For Camden, we will practice hard, just like we have done all year,” said Groat.
