Neighborhood Problems

I recently read an article about some Durham folks that are unhappy about the Graham Rd. Landfill here in Brunswick. I have a question: Were you wearing a clothespin on your nose and blinders? Certainly you had to have a clue that IT was there. The people that originally built on that little road had to know that it was there. It isn’t going to disappear like magic and a portion of the site may become a transfer station and remain a recycling center and depository for compostables. Eventually it will be capped.

There are test wells to monitor the ground water in the area, both inside and outside the landfill. One thing that was found a few years ago was medication in the ground water that did NOT come from the landfill. It came from a private septic system. How much medication is being shed in all of our private septic systems? Lots!

Two other neighborhood problems are the train and Brunswick Landing. No-one ever promised that the former rail yard wouldn’t be reactivated and become a useful area. Now that Brunswick Landing is no longer a Naval Air Station with noisy planes doesn’t mean that there won’t be noisy planes returning via the private sector.

It is time to get used to it or adapt.

Political Concerns

I have some thoughts on the political situation today! First off, I think the political system needs a major change. Take the political labels away, such as Democrats and Republicans and liberal and conservative. It is just not working. They should pool them all together and work out our financial problems etc. Now it is like two football teams fighting against each other for their personal gain. Does that sound familiar? I have belonged to a lot of clubs and the members get together and work out there issues without the pressure of some political party. It sounds rather simple but accomplishes what the people (members) want or need. It can be handled by elected directors by the membership without two opposing parties fighting against each other.

I also think they should vote on one bill at a time and outlaw pork barreling. I also think electoral votes do not represent the most of the people fairly. It will take smarter people than me to work out a system which will satisfy the majority of the people with what they want and need.
