SHREWSBURY — Eleanor M. (Moses) Wagner passed away peacefully at Beaumont Nursing Home in Northborough on May 24th, 2017.

Ellie was born to Fred and Laura Moses in March, 1929 in Tilton, New Hampshire. Being raised on a farm with six sisters rooted a love of her family and her country, qualities she would carry with her for the rest of her life. Ellie was an avid hiker and member of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), having hiked all of the of the 4,000 foot mountains in New Hampshire. She also hiked additional mountains in New England, Switzerland and Chile. Ellie’s appreciation for animals and nature was a steadfast part of who she was, often volunteering her time to the AMC as a hike leader with her husband Harold and to Heifer Project International.

Ellie was also a talented cook and seamstress, frequently creating outfits for her family and friends. Her baking skills were a great joy to the family especially at Christmas time when everyone found their individual batch of Christmas cookies under the tree.

Ellie spent her life contributing in many ways. She worked in the operating room and the emergency room in a local hospital and performed volunteer work in her church and her community. She was an active church member, always prepared to take the helm in any project. Ellie also was active with her “woman’s group” which was a group of special friends who were together for over thirty years.

Ellie’s love and commitment to her family were her number one priority. She absolutely loved being a Grandma and thought it was the “Best Job in the World.” Not a holiday, birthday or life event went by without her loving presence. Her quick wit, generous personality and genuine love of people made her adored by all who knew her.

She is survived by her two children, Craig Waters and his wife Dawn, and Elaine Waters-Daverio and her husband Richard. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Caitlin Waters, Jennie Spring, Jeffery Daverio and Natalie Daverio. She is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Wagner who passed in 2003.

The family will be holding a private memorial service and burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eleanor’s name to Heifer Project International, 1 World Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72202
