Highland Green opened its Zone 3 Senior American Legion baseball season on Thursday with a 6-0 victory over United at Gray-New Gloucester High School.
The combination of Cam Grant, Alex Larson, Mike Stewart and Kam Labbe pitched in the win. They allowed three hits, struck out nine and walked two.
Highland Green (1-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, and scored two runs in the second, two in the fourth and one in the seventh to pull away.
Grant had a pair of doubles in the win, while Cole Bryant picked up a two-run single. Liam Huston and Haven Cutko also singled.
Colby Wagner of Freeport singled for United, while Jake Cloutier took the mound loss.
Highland Green hosts Coastal Landscape, a team combining players from Cheverus, Deering and Westbrook, on Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m. The games will be played at Mt. Ararat High School.
