Travis attended Brunswick schools prior to joining the United States Army in 2006. He completed boot camp at Fort Benning, GA before reporting to Fort Meyer VA where he served as a member of the elite 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard.) In 2007 Travis participated in the Presidential Memorial Day Ceremony at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He stood only a few feet from the President. After his tour with the Old Guard Travis transferred to Fort Hood Texas. He served 2 tours of duty in Afghanistan. Travis finished his Army career at Fort Hood where he was honorably discharged on April 14, 2016.
During his time with the Army Travis received many awards including the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Global War On Terrorism Service Medal and several more. Travis was highly regarded by his fellow soldiers and leaders. His peers describe him as a great friend and an awesome leader who always fought for what he believed was right for others.
He was a remarkable young man with an awesome personality and an amazing friend to his military family. It was said to be an honor and privilege to have served with a Soldier of his caliber. Travis was an inspiration to all. One of the nicest and most down to earth dudes you’d ever meet. He kept it real all day all the time and that’s why so many people respected him. He was such a good guy and always had a smile on his face. Travis was fondly nicknamed “Too Tall.”
Travis was loved deeply by his family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Anna Granger (Dan Robey), his father, Jim Granger, Jr. (Liz) and his sister, Jenny Granger Anderson (Jake) all of Brunswick. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather Jerry Geisler (Merry) of Waterford, and Rosaire Champagne of Bridgton and by his three children, Brittany and Tyson Granger of Glendive, Montana and Dominic Granger of Killeen, TX along with aunts, uncles, a cousin and a niece and nephew.
Travis was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Jim and Joan Granger of Brunswick, and maternal grandmother Maria Champagne of Bridgton.
A funeral service will be held at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street in Brunswick, on May 27, 2017 at 10:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations of your choice to one or more of the follow: PTSD Foundation of America, Wounded Warriors’, or Operation Delta Dog (service dogs for veterans).
