RICHMOND

A Richmond woman driving a rental moving truck with a car in tow allegedly failed to stop for police between Richmond and Topsham until hitting a spike mat deployed by police late Monday morning.

Sgt. James Donnell said Richmond police had issued an arrest warrant for Michele Brown, 50, with a last known address on Church Street in Richmond. She was facing charges of domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, domestic violence criminal threatening and domestic violence criminal mischief.

The charges stem from an alleged incident on Thursday in which she allegedly assaulted a man with a tennis racket.

Donnell said Richmond police were informed Monday that Brown was back at the apartment. When the officer on duty responded at approximately 11 a.m., he found Brown leaving in a Penske moving truck, towing a car on a trailer.

The officer activated his lights to conduct a traffic stop, but Brown failed to stop, Donnell said.

Brown soon reached Route 24, driving toward Bowdoinham and into Topsham at low speeds, with police in pursuit.

Topsham police deployed a spike mat near Cathance Road, Donnell said.

Though it was reported that Brown occasionally took over the oncoming traffic lane, Donnell said no one was injured and he was not aware of any damage or vehicles forced off the road by Brown.

Donnell said Brown was taken into custody at 11:13 a.m. and transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick to be checked for a medical issue. He expected her to be taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset once cleared from the hospital.

He expects Brown to be charged with failing to stop for law enforcement and driving to endanger. Additional charges may be pending.

Donnell thanked the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Office and Topshan Police Department for their assistance with the incident.
