Brunswick Needs the New Elementary School
As citizens of Brunswick, we have a golden opportunity to improve our fine schools by voting on June 13th to endorse the construction of a new and much needed elementary school. As you know, we have to work constantly to make education in Brunswick our top priority. This means strongly supporting our teachers, administrators, and other school personnel each day of the year. It is hard work to do this, but we must do it to insure a bright future for our children and our Town. If our schools are outstanding, our Town will be outstanding. This bond cannot be broken.
Take time now to join other citizens who want the new school to be constructed by emailing [email protected] to find out how to help. You should also attend one of the School Department’s informational sessions about the proposed new school. The schedule includes upcoming sessions at Thornton Oaks on May 16th from 2-3 p. m., or People Plus on May 23rd from 6-7 p. m.
This school is critically needed. I know this from my own personal experience of mentoring students for over fifteen years at Longfellow, the Junior High, and now the High School. Let’s support our excellent, hard-working educators and support staff and make sure that we have fine schools for our children and community now and in the future. Let’s go Brunswick!

Thank You from BTDC
On behalf of the Brunswick Town Democratic Committee, I’d like to thank all those who made the launch of our “One Community” campaign such a success. On April 11, 80 people joined us for a bipartisan discussion of the current health care debate and what it means for Mainers. Thanks to Midcoast Health’s Lois Skillings and Joel Allumbaugh for sharing their time and insights and to Pat Ryan for facilitating. A group there wanted to discuss longer term policy options and we will soon host a session addressing single payer proposals.
Last Saturday, on a stunning morning that felt like early summer, a gang of intrepid volunteers spent hours cleaning up downtown. There are many to thank including Dunkin Donuts on Pleasant Street who provided free coffee and donuts for our clean up crew and Brunswick Parks and Recreation for their support. All the volunteers were terrific but some deserve special thanks for their work organizing these efforts and getting the word out. Thanks to Edie Kilgour, Barb Ollinger, Michelle Small, Peter Simmons, Cynthia Shelmerdine, Emily Rines, Kate Foye, Lucille and Sandy Stott, Ross and Anne Miller and Carolyn Bulliner
We are committed to undertaking community activities that provide opportunities to find common ground and forums to share ideas and action across the partisan divide. We encourage suggestions for additional community action.
Again thanks to all who made these two events so successful!
Trish Riley,
Chair, Brunswick Town
Democratic Committee
