
Rita was born in Bath on May 23, 1928, a daughter of John J. and Reta (Comeau) Mulcahy. She attended Bath schools and graduated from Morse High School, Bath in the Class of 1946. Rita attended Becker Junior College in Worchester, MA, in 1947 where she received a key to the city for graduating with highest honors. Returning to Bath, she was employed as a legal secretary for Attorney John Carey for many years. Rita was also employed as a secretary at the Hyde Windless Co., Morse High School and Bath Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bath and the Bath Area Senior Citizens.
Nothing gave Rita more pleasure than spending time with her family She especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren at Quaker Point in West Bath. Family was, without question, her greatest love. Rita enjoyed flea marketing and for years had a table at the Montsweag Flea Market. She also spent a great deal of time playing Bingo, antiquing, going to the casino and enjoying the company of her good friend and neighbor, Joan Footer.
On November 11, 1953, Rita was married to Mike Bennett who passed away on May 10, 1990. She was predeceased by sisters, Marguerite, Dorothy, Mary and Patricia, and her brother, John J. Mulcahy, Jr. Rita was also predeceased by a very special son-in-law, David P. “Beav” Bourget.
Rita is survived by two sons, Joe Bennett and his wife Pros of Bangor and Tom Bennett of West Bath, two daughters, Patty Bennett Bourget of West Bath and Julie Bennett Harden and her husband Mike of Tequesta, FL, one sister, Laura McCourt of Brunswick, and a sister in-law, Joan Bennett Robinson of Chebeaque Island. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Tommy Bennett, Brian Bennett, Mike Bennett, Josh Bennett, Zack Bennett, Rachel Bourget Keller, Khara Randall, Hannah Bennett and Laura Harden; four great grandchildren, Lilly Rhea Niemann, Katelyn Bennett, Sawyer Bennett and Alakai Randall, many special nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at the Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Thursday April 20, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 144 Lincoln St., Bath. A gathering of family and friends will follow at the church. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Bath at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bath Area Senior Citizens, c/o The Activities Fund, 45 Floral Street, Bath, 04530.
