THE BOWDOINHAM COMMUNITY SCHOOL PRODUCTION of its original play, “The Strange and Terrifying…,” runs April 7-8.

BOWDOINHAM

The Bowdoinham Community School Theatre Program will present the world premiere of its first original play, created by the students, titled: “The Strange and Terrifying, Delightful, Heartwarming, Dramatic and Epic, Mad-Cap, Hilarious Tale of the Witch’s Sorceress’ Curse Upon the Silent Prince and the Zombie Boys Whose Mystery is Pondered by Four Brilliant (?) Doctors and Spellbound by the Fairy Queen; then the Quest of the Servant Girls (with Magical Cat, Pony, Parrot, and Super- Girl) Leads them Over Mountains, Defeating Storms, Dragons and Mimes to Learn the Wisdom of the Wisest Wise Man and Save the Kingdom (Part One).”

Students have been working on the production since last Fall, when fourth and fifth graders began meeting weekly after school for playmaking sessions, deciding what kind of show to create.

Produced and directed by parent volunteer Dana Wieluns Legawiec, with the assistance of volunteers Carol Scribner and Diana Mosher, “The Strange and Terrifying …” features the creative talents of more than 50 children from Kindergarten through fifth grade.

“The students have driven every aspect of the creative process — from deciding what their characters say or do, to designing their own costumes, and adding sound effects or building props,” said Legawiec, a local theatre producer, acto, and teacher. “The kids totally own this play and it shows –— their energy and enthusiasm is amazing.”

A preview for the school will begin at 1:45 p.m. on April 7. Two community performances are scheduled for April 8 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Parking and seating are limited, so community members wishing to attend are advised to walk or carpool, and to arrive early. Donations will be accepted at the door to support Theatre and Arts programming at Bowdoinham Community School.

The Bowdoinham Community School is located at 23 Cemetery Road in Bowdoinham.
