James Anthony Bruni

PORTLAND – James Anthony Bruni, of Portland, passed away on Feb. 22, 2021, at the age of 70. Jim had a battle with cancer, and as he did with everything else in his life, he gave it hell.

Jim was the only male child in his family and is survived by his three “ingrate siblings” as he so fondly called them; his rescue dog, Roscoe; and his beloved BMW. His “big” sister, Pat Bruni, who cared for Jim throughout this ordeal, middle sister, Mary Libby and his youngest sister, Carol Bruni, all who live on Highland Lake, Windham, where Jim had resided throughout most of this battle.

Jim lost a piece of himself about two years ago when he lost his partner of 40-plus years, Dan Powell, who we know was waiting for him.

Jim traveled, explored, adventured. He spent many winters in the city of Rome, which he loved, painting the sights from his balcony. We have many of these paintings to remember him by, and which we would like to share with his friends and loved ones. He did many amazing walks around the world, including the Camino de Santiago, which almost claimed his big toe. Trust me, that was not pleasant.

To his many friends, thank you for being there during this time and for the love you sent to him. It meant a lot to Jim, and to his sisters.

I wish we could get together with all of those who loved Jim, to laugh, cry, hug and say goodbye together, but in this new world, at this time it is not possible. So, I hope you will all join us for a ZOOM remembrance hosted by Jim’s niece, Chelsea Brown, on March 7. This date was important to Jim as it is the anniversary of Dan’s passing. Details to follow.

We will miss you, Brother.
