Robert W. Carr
SOUTH PORTLAND – Robert W. Carr, 62, of South Portland, died peacefully on Monday August 22, 2022 in Scarborough with his wife, Sherryanne and his brother-in-law, Matt by his side.
He was born in Portland July 31, 1960, the son of Richard D. Sr. and Joan S. (Harmon) Carr. Rob spent his early childhood growing up in Portland, the city in which he would discover his Irish roots. Later, his family moved to South Portland, where Rob graduated from South Portland High School.
Rob entered the United States Marine Corps in 1980 and served four years on active duty, attaining the rank of Lance Corporal. Later, Rob’s mission was to chronicle the Mainers killed in World War II. He did this with his book, Some Gave All and his website, mainegavemany.com. You could often find Rob’s sons accompanying him as he gathered research. Rob enjoyed putting up flags around South Portland to honor those who gave their lives in Vietnam. He volunteered yearly for Run For the Fallen. To say that Rob was patriotic is an understatement.
Rob worked in the printing industry for many years, working three 12 hour days, so he could spend the majority of time being home with his boys. Later Rob became a professional driver for Maine Limousine. He loved the job and it gave him opportunities to meet new people every day, oftentimes mingling with celebrities, who looked at him as a friend.
With all that Rob accomplished, he always gave credit to the woman he called the love of his life, his wife Sherryanne.
Rob was predeceased by his parents; and his niece, Candace Beesley Jameson.
Rob is survived by his wife, Sherryanne (Green) Carr; his sons, Colton Carr of Portland and Justin Carr of South Portland; his siblings, Helen Beesley (Walter) of Winthrop, Kathi Toothaker (Guy) of Winthrop, Suzanne Carr of Florida, Richard Carr of Freeport and half-siblings, Michelle Carr of Auburn and Michael Carr of Augusta; his in-laws, Coleman and Paulette Green of Portland; sisters-in-law Leanne and Hopeanne Green of Portland, brothers-in-law, Dr. Matthew (Dr. Maggie) Green and their sons Enzo and Wyeth of Scarborough, and Coleman Green of Portland; aunt Carol (Van) Carll of Gorham; several nieces, nephews; great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
With us your journey has
reached its end
Departing our port,
past the horizon,
and distant stars
your new one must begin
Gone but never to
be forgotten,
We’ll carry your love
and energy, deep within.
–Colton Carr
