Rena T. Morin

SPRINGVALE – Rena T. Morin, a devoted mom and proud grandmother, “Yia Yia”, passed in the comfort of her home on Aug. 25, 2022.

Rena was born at home in Springvale, on Aug. 20, 1934, one of five children of James and Athena (Steryiotis) Therianos.

Rena’s warm smile and vivacious personality drew people into her heart and home. She was a bundle of energy and proved to be a conscientious and dependable employee. Rena met her husband Edgar Morin while working as a bookkeeper at Universal Shoe.

When her children were entering school, she wanted to work at jobs that allowed her to be home when the kids had school vacations and holidays. Rena worked as one of the lunch ladies at St. Ignatius School, Romac Apple Orchards and in the bakery department of Hannaford’s where she baked the donuts. She was well liked and loved by her co-workers.

For many years she collaborated with her husband at Ed’s Lunch Truck and became her daughter Nancy’s co-pilot at her business, Wild Flour Catering. Rena was blessed with wonderful and kind neighbors who became part of her community of friends. She maintained a close relationship with her classmates from Sanford High School.

Rena’s home was warm and welcoming. She cultivated a beautiful flower garden (until the deer found it) and enjoyed visiting in her screen porch. When the neighborhood kids were young, they would run throughout the streets, hopping from one pool to the next! The parents agreed, “At least we know they are safe and close to home!”

Rena was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and volunteered during their Greek Festival days. One of her fondness trips included spending three weeks exploring Europe with her daughter, Nancy. The wonder of Greece and her immense joy in the sights, sounds and food of her heritage.

Rena’s life could be described as faith, family, and community. Though she was short in stature, her heart and unconditional love became a cornerstone of her being. Our hearts are broken, yet we know she was at peace and ready to join those she loved and yearned to see again. We will miss your smile, laughter, and hugs. . .

Rena is lovingly survived by her children Christopher (Becki) Morin and Nancy (Gary) Morrill; four grandchildren, Adam and Stephen Morrill, Anna and Audrey Morin; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Isabel Morrill; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Edgar Morin; and by her siblings Paul and Spero Therianos and Mary Mukilson and Georgia T. Kostis.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 10 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Bradley St., in Saco.

If you are unable to attend the funeral service, please feel free to join us at St. Ignatius Cemetery for committal prayers at 11:45 a.m. to 12 p.m.
