Pickleball lessons and open gym

Parks and Recreation is offering beginners’ lessons for those just starting to play pickleball  and intermediate lessons for those who wish to improve their play and learn more strategy. Classes run 11 a.m. to noon through Dec. 2 at Newbegin Community Center.

The Rec Department also is offering Drop-in Adult Open Gym for ages 18 up. No Registration required. A $3 donation at door is requested. www.GNGREC.com.

Legion hosting blood drive, cribbage

American Legion Post 86 will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 10 a.m.to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, upstairs in the Meeting Hall. You can schedule your donation in advance at redcrossblood.org.

The post also is hosting Monday Night Open Cribbage at 6 p.m. weekly with dinner and Monday Night Football. The entry fee is $5. Call 657-4884 for more information.

The Friends of the Wildlife Park have a new fundraiser this holiday season. Holly Fair

The First Congregational Church of Gray will hold its annual Holly Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Parish House at 5 Brown St. The fair will include crafts, Rada cutlery, white elephant, jewelry, children’s activities, baked goods, coffee and doughnuts, and corn chowder to go.

High school presents ‘Oliver!’

The Patriot Players of Gray-New Gloucester High School will present “Oliver!” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Nov. 17 and 18, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, at the high school. Admission is $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults. Tickets will be available at the door. The musical is based on the Charles Dickens novel “Oliver Twist.”

Library hires head of Youth Services

Samantha Enters has been named the new head of Youth Services at the Gray Public Library. She has a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and a master’s of library and information science from Kent State University. She was a high school librarian for 4½ years. Before that, she worked as a reference librarian at a public library and as an elementary school librarian.

Business community forum

The town is hosting a Gray Village Business Community Forum at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at the library. Remote participation will be available. This is a chance for the community to engage with the Community Economic Development Committee and talk about the future of Gray Village and its businesses. GNG Caring Community is accepting applications for families in need of a Thanksgiving meal. You must show proof of residency, and the deadline to submit is Friday, Nov. 11. Learn how to help in an emergency

Gray Fire Rescue is offering a free class at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, to teach you what you can do to help before first responders arrive at a scene. You will be taught scene safety, bleeding control, patient positioning and recognizing sudden cardiac arrest. Hands-only CPR also will be taught. The class will be held at the Fire Rescue station and is open to anyone, but you must register by calling Gray-New Gloucester Adult Education at 207-657-9612.

Movie time
