SOUTH PORTLAND – David Wayne DiCenso, 70, passed away on Nov. 18, 2022 at home peacefully with his family by his side.

David was born in Portland on Aug. 3, 1952, the son of Vito and Camilla DiCenso. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1970 to 1972. On July 4, 1972, David met the love of his life, Alice “Alley”. They married on March 20, 1976, and recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. They had two children, Valorie and Anthony.

Dave was well known for his strong work ethic. He put himself through school at SMCC to become the amazing electrician he was known to be, all while working three jobs at any given time to provide for his family. He worked at Pizzagalli Construction as the grounds maintenance keeper for 20 years, and then went on to work for Commercial Properties for another 15-plus years.

He also worked many years as a side job for Electrician Jim Talbert, whom he thought a lot of. Dave was a workaholic, known as the “Go to Guy” to all. He was the guy who everyone called for all things, no matter if it was electrical or car related, he wore many hats. He seemed to have all the answers for the needs of others and was always happy to help. Dave would never accept a penny from anyone, he was too proud to do that. Dave loved nothing more than being with his family and spending time with each of his grandchildren, both together and individually. He always made sure each grandchild felt loved and special in their own way.

He loved hunting, golfing, and cooking. He was known for his “mad skills” on the BBQ, always cooking up the most amazing hamburgers and steaks. He was also known for his amazing fish chowders and spaghetti sauce – the list goes on and on. He loved reminiscing and telling stories, captivating all who listened. With every detail and his animation, you were always left with a smile and tears of laughter.

He enjoyed taking little road trips with Alley, stopping in new places and seeing the sites. He especially loved taking nightly drives to Ram Island to see how many deer he could spot. If you joined him on this drive, consider yourself lucky. He enjoyed his last ride to Ram Island with Alley, and it is a drive that will never be forgotten.

Dave was known for many things – first and foremost he was a family man – our sole provider, hard worker, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He had nicknames that meant a lot to him, some referred to him as “Diamond” “Bamps” “Booka” “Dave with a Dot” and “Charlie”.

David was predeceased by his parents Vito and Camilla DiCenso; brother, Paul DiCenso, brother, Vito DiCenso and sister, Valorie DiCenso.

He is survived by his wife, Alley DiCenso of 46 years; daughter, Valorie Dianne Jordan and her husband Christopher Jordan; granddaughter, Maria Dianne Buck; son, Anthony David DiCenso and his wife Shayna DiCenso; grandsons, Anthony David DiCenso and David Wayne DiCenso; sisters Dianne Tardy and her husband Dan Tardy, Claudia Ouellette, Terri Bickford and her husband John Bickford; and many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law who loved him very much.
