Paulette Watson Serbin

SCARBOROUGH – Paulette Watson Serbin, 85, passed away peacefully with family by her side on May 2, 2023 after a long illness. She was born on Sept. 5, 1937 in Dover, N.H. and attended Dover public schools.

She received her B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the University of New Hampshire and her first job out of college was at the Bird S. Coler Hospital on Roosevelt Island, N.Y.

While working in New York she met her future husband, John A Serbin, from Queens, NY. They were later married on June 16, 1962 in Iowa City, Iowa and settled in Ipswich, Mass. where her husband started his career as an insurance agent.

In 1972, Paulette and her husband John, now with daughter Jennifer and son Drew (John Andrew), moved to Cape Elizabeth. Paulette, a natural multi-tasker was a homemaker for the next ten years but soon returned to her love of occupational therapy, working in both the Portland Public Schools and with the elderly at many greater Portland nursing facilities. She continued that work until her retirement in 2004 when she and her husband retired to Kingsland, Ga.

She was an avid amateur genealogist and served as the registrar for the Camden County, Ga. chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for many years. She loved tennis and golf and most of all cruising the Maine coast with her husband, family and friends on their boat.

She was predeceased by her parents, Rachel (Doucet) and Granville Severance Watson; as well as her husband of nearly 60 years, John A Serbin.

She is survived by her beloved sister, Jean Isroe of North Tonawanda, NY; her daughter, Jennifer Holub (Patrick), of Springfield, Va. and son, Drew Serbin (Sandra) of Scarborough; and her four granddaughters whom she adored, include Meghan and Mackenzie Holub, Ava and Alexandra Serbin.

A service at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and a graveside ceremony at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth will be planned in June.
