Some of his fondest memories were growing up as a young boy in Camden until he attended and later graduated from Rockland High School in 1960. Bob was a standout athlete in football, basketball and track and field. In track he won eight events multiple times in meets which prompted the MPA to invoke the “Huntley Rule” allowing competitors in track meets to only be able to enter two running events and two field events. He continued his athletic career at MCI Prep School and Yankton College in South Dakota. Bob enlisted in the Army and served a tour of duty in Korea where he was a Psych Medic. He later went on to complete his degree at UMass-Amherst from 1968-1970.

He spent the mid part of his life in Connecticut raising his family and working at various jobs in the turf management field. An entrepreneur and a salesman he started his own catering business and pursued opportunities in the field of sales.

A true Mainer at heart, his roots brought him back home where he met his perfect partner and love, Mary Curran. He loved his rides on the back roads and adventures with Mary whom he married in 2005. Bob spent his later years doing the things he loved most, being in nature, exploring Rangely, taking pictures and watching his grandkids grow and compete athletically. He was inducted into the Midcoast Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 with his family proudly looking on as he talked with humility about his accomplishments and stated that although he had been fortunate and grateful to have done what he did as an athlete, he was most proud of his grandkids and being able to watch them grow and excel.

He will be so missed! Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Huntley of Portland and his three children. Two sons Craig Huntley and his wife Karrie Huntley of Stafford Springs, Conn., Christopher Huntley and his wife Michelle Huntley of Westbrook, and one daughter, Stacey Huntley Ford of Falmouth; stepson Ryan Champagne and his wife Adriana of California; nine grandchildren: Jena Huntley, Gus Ford, Jordan Huntley, Abbie Ford, Henry Huntley, Ida Huntley, Austin Clark, Sloane Champagne and Stevie Champagne; One great grandchild, Mason Valentino; his brother Allen Huntley and his wife Ella of Thomaston, and his sister, Christine Waysville of North Walpole, N.H., as well as several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at The Great Lost Bear in Portland on Wednesday, July 10 from 2-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Midcoast Sports
Hall of Fame
