Keith Fletcher
WELLS – Keith Fletcher, 66, of Wells, passed away on July 2, 2024. Keith was a kind, passionate, and creative man who devoted his life to his family, land conservation, and music.
Keith was born in Pittsburg, Pa. on Sept. 6, 1957 to Earl C. Fletcher Jr. and Anne (Brady) Fletcher. He attended Antioch College in Ohio, where he earned a B.S. in 1980. It was here he met the love of his life, Lisa Murphy, backstage at a collegiate performance of Antoine Chekov’s “Three Sisters”. Keith played a wandering minstrel, and Lisa helped him with his costume.
After graduating, Keith launched a career in land conservation. He also resumed his studies, finishing a M.S. from John Hopkins University in 1991. His work brought him all around the country: he championed conservation around the Delaware River, on the prairies of Iowa, and eventually across the woods and coastline of Maine. Most recently, Keith worked with Maine Coast Heritage Trust to help preserve Maine’s coast. He was also a member of the Wells Conservation Commission for 23 years.
Keith was a skilled fiddle player. He could fill a room with joyous music or play something somber or peaceful. He also wrote his own tunes, including songs for his children. Keith taught violin at TuneTown in Wells, and performed regularly at charity events, for school programs, and at local pubs.
To those closest to him, Keith was a beacon of hope. He was always quick with a joke, even when life was tough, and he always strived to make the world just a little bit better.
Keith is survived by his wife, Lisa Murphy; as well as his children, Alexander Fletcher, Samuel Fletcher, and his daughter-in-law Dhara Fletcher. He is also survived by his sister, Deb Nelson, his brother-in-law Steve Nelson; seven nieces and nephews; and many more beloved relatives.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his twin brother, Earl “Kip” Fletcher.
A celebration of life in Keith’s memory will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 at Wells Reserve at Laudholm, 342 Laudholm Farm Rd., Wells, ME 04090.
